Weight Loss Mom Secrets

Dear Obsessive Mother's Guide to Parenting,

The "baby" is four.  I don't think I can keep calling these "pregnancy pounds" anymore.  I have no time to exercise and it's too hard to diet.  Any suggestions?  I need some help.

Susana from The Woodlands

Dear Susana –

Yep.  We've all been there!  If the gym is not your thing and diets are out, try these simple tricks.  They won't have you winning any weight-loss game shows, but they will take off a pound or two!

1) When you brush their teeth, brush yours.  Brushing teeth signals your brain that eating time is over.  When those night-time cravings come up, try a big glass of water instead and distract yourself with a TV show or book you like to read.

2) Pick a cereal you like that is low calories.  My favorite is Raisin Bran.  Whenever I can't resist the midnight craving, or afternoon craving, or mid-morning craving, I have a bowl of a cereal with a low-fat milk on top.  It fills me up with something balanced and I can resist the potato chips.

3) Pack lunches / snacks.  Either the night before or the morning you head out the door for dance class, karate class and the million other errands we moms run during the day, pack something healthy.  Cheese sticks, frozen Go-gurts, turkey slices, apple slices, carrot sticks, fat-free pretzels.  Having options in your car help you drive right by those fast food joints.

Hang in there Susana.  We've all been in your mom-jeans and many of us still are!  Keep up your obsessive parenting and keep us posted on your weight-loss progress.
