The Woodlands Children’s Museum Joins TOMS to Raise Awareness of Blindness and Vision Impairment

Support the cause October 9

THE WOODLANDS, TX – September 29, 2014 – The Woodlands Children’s Museum is joining with TOMS to help end avoidable blindness and vision impairment.

On TOMS World Sight Day, scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 9, the museum invites visitors to join the cause – and fight for the right of sight. The museum and TOMS will prepare activities locally as part of a global awareness campaign to demonstrate how difficult life without sight can be.

“We are encouraging guests to wear sunglasses inside to raise awareness for global blindness with a fun, reflective activity,” Angela Colton, the museum’s executive director, said. “ Most people are unaware that 80 percent of the people who are blind or visually impaired don’t have to be!”

Colton explained that sight is often taken for granted.

“World Sight Day is a time to recognize this critical global issue,” she said. “We are really hoping to raise awareness in our community. The more people know, the more we can work toward solving this crisis.”

The museum will have several activities for visitors during the event, including free eye exams for children provided by Child and Family Eye Care in The Woodlands.

“After the event, we invite everyone to stay, play and explore all of our current exhibits,” Colton said.

There will also be a stencil activity. T-shirts will be donated by Wendy Brons-Miller, owner of  Brons and Company.

TOMS World Sight Day is included in the cost of admission. Daily Admission is $5 per person 2 years and older. Admission is free for children under 2 and museum members. Recommended for ages 7 years and under. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Located at 4775 W. Panther Creek Drive, Suite 280, in The Woodlands, 77381, the museum has a full calendar of exciting activities. To learn more, visit www.woodlandschildrensmuseum.org or call 281-465-0955.
