Lip-smacking ice cream making in celebration of National Ice Cream Day

WHAT:         Most superheroes can withstand the Houston heat.  But not everyone can resist a mouthwatering ice cream.  The Children’s Museum of Houston invites you to shake, rattle, and roll your way to a tasty, frozen treat at the Summer of Epic Adventure – The Sequel during License to Chill WonderWeek, July 17 – 23.  Beware the brain freeze and make your own ice cream in celebration of National Ice Cream Day on July 18.   Brr!

 

  • Ice Cream Making:  In 1984, President Ronald Reagan established National Ice Cream Day as the third Sunday in July.  Come out and make your very own irresistible ice cream!

Event Time:  11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday, July 18 in Tree Top (While supplies last)

SPECIAL EVENTS:

Get Your Gear On – Capes and Masks:  Use plastic fusion to create superhero accessories.                          Event Time:  11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Mon. – Sat); noon to 2 p.m. (Sunday) in Heroes’ Hideout.

  • Welcome to the League” Live Epic Showdown:  Go on an exhilarating quest for superpowers.

Event Times:  Noon, 1 & 2 p.m. (Mon. – Fri.)  in the Brown Auditorium

  • Epic Experience – Frozen to the Core:  Check out how liquid nitrogen freezes anything!

Event Time:  3 to 5 p.m. every day in the Alcove.

 

ON-GOING ACTIVITIES:

Science of Cold, Heart Justice:  Send shivers down villains’ spines in Science Station.

  • Icy Watercolors:  Replicate your own fortress of solitude in the Alexander Art Academy.
  • Freeze Frame:  Produce your own animated stop-motion movie at Inventors’ Workshop.
  • Superhero Snowflake:  Etch a superhero design into a unique snowflake at Junktion.
  • Chilling Ice Crystal:  Harness your chilling powers with an ice shard amulet at Junktion.

SUMMER HOURS:  Mon. – Sat.:  10 a.m. – 6 p.m.; Sun:  Noon – 6 p.m.

Second Saturday of every month opens at 9 a.m. for members.

General Museum admission: $9 per person and $8 for seniors 65+ and for active duty military personnel.  Children under one and Museum Members receive free admission.
