Children’s Museum of Houston invites children with Autism to a sensory exclusive event celebrating Halloween

 

Monday, Oct. 13

Sponsored by Mogas and The Stanford and Joan Alexander Fund

 

WHAT:                 The Children’s Museum of Houston invites families affected by Autism to Sensory Friendly Day.  Sensory Friendly Day is an opportunity for kids with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) to explore the Museum in their own way and time.  This exclusive event will provide a comfortable, protected and accepting environment, allow parents to make connections with other families, and offer new tools and resources.  Doors will be closed to the public.  There will be no music and sound reducing headphones will be available.  The Museum will be transformed into the Monsters’ Museum of Houston, happening now through Nov. 2.

 

  • Drippy Monsters:  Design your own drippy monster at Alexander Art Academy.

ON-GOING ACTIVITIES:

Bat Bones Pasta:  Get batty and make a bat bone pasta diagram at EcoStation.

  • Bat Flight:  Learn how the only mammals that fly do it at EcoStation.
  • Halloween Pattern Bracelets:  Make a beaded bracelet at ExxonMobil Math Cart.
  • Monster Sort:  How are monsters alike?  Sort it out at ExxonMobil Math Cart.
  • Haunted Marble Mazes:  Invent your own scary maze in the Inventors’ Workshop.
  • Story Time – Matt Mitter’s Hungry Monsters:   Read it at Parent Resource Library.
  • Monster Calls:  Master the monster language at Junktion.
  • Zombie Disguise:  Use your brainnnns to create a Zombie mask at Junktion.
  • Moe Monster Paper Toy:   Make a mini Moe Monster figurine at Junktion.
  • Monster Blood:  What does monster blood look like?  Find out at Science Station.
  • Monster Veins:  Pop up monster veins at Science Station.
  • Blood Oaths:  Reveal monsters’ secret messages at Science Station.

Special Sensory Friendly Day Admission:   $5 per person. Children under one and Museum Members receive free admission.
