New Events Coordinator at The Woodlands Children’s Museum

Nan 2014

New Events Coordinator at The Woodlands Children’s Museum

Nan Price brings lifetime devotion to music, dance and children to the position

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Jan. 13, 2015 –The Woodlands Children’s Museum has announced the addition of a new events coordinator with a love for music, dance and children, Nan Price.

Prior to joining the museum, Price had worked with several organizations focused on children – and has her own fascinating childhood tales to tell.

Originally from West Virginia, Price was part of a touring group of musicians when she was young. She and her three siblings made up the “The Four Ciccarellos.”

Price played guitar and piano and sang. The group toured around the country on weekends – and during this period, befriended folk singer Kathy Matteas.

“We’d be home during the week, and on the weekend, we’d be on the road,” she recalled.

Price’s mother played piano, and her father managed the band. He sang opera in New York before the children were born. Later, her father got involved in politics, serving as a campaign manager.

Price said being on the road with her family – whether for music or politics – helped her learn how to stay organized and handle events.

When Price was older, she focused her energy on ballet and dance. She practiced in West Virginia, and traveled to New York to study under some of the greats, including renowned dancer, teacher, and choreographer of modern dance Martha Graham.

When Price became a stay-at-home mom, she continued to teach dance and music lessons.

When her children were older, she became a youth minister. She enrolled in seminary and stayed in the post for 20 years, before moving to Texas eight years ago.

Price became area director of the San Jacinto Girl Scout Council, then served as activities director at the Friendship Center.

She next served as event director at VillaSport Athletic Club and Spa, before learning about the opening at The Woodlands Children’s Museum.

“I was looking for something like this, and they had a job posting,” Price said. “I went in for my interview and just fell in love with the place.”

When she’s not at work, Price enjoys spending time with her three children and three grandchildren.

She said she is thrilled to be a part of such a wonderful organization with such a heart for the education of children.

“I could not have asked for a better environment to work in,” she said. “Our events are such great fun. I’d like to see them continue to grow. It’s a lot of hard work, but when you see the children enjoying it, that makes it all worthwhile.”

Executive director Angela Colton said Price is a perfect addition to the team.

“Nan has such a great energy and love of fun,” Colton said. “We’re so happy that she has come on board.”
