Let’s Play Event – a community partnership led by Dr Pepper Snapple (DPS) to get kids and families active!

Play is important to children’s physical, emotional, social and intellectual development. Yet new research from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control shows that kids are becoming more sedentary and not getting the activity they need. Other research shows that healthy lifestyle habits formed through play, including physical activity, can lower the risk of obesity and its associated health issues. It is more important than ever for kids and families to get outside and play, especially in Houston, which cites high obesity rates among adults and children.* In fact, only 27 percent of Texas adolescents reported that they participated in the CDC’s recommended 60 minutes of physical activity per day.**

Let’s Play, a community partnership led by Dr Pepper Snapple (DPS) to get kids and families active, is helping bring play to Houston on Saturday, Nov. 8.

·         Early Saturday morning, Let’s Play; its partners KaBOOM! and Good Sports, two organizations dedicated to promoting balanced and active play; and a team of 200+ volunteers will build a playground from the ground up, and donate more than $50,000 in brand new sports equipment to various Houston-area schools.

·         In the afternoon, Let’s Play will host a FREE event open to the public with games, prizes and fun for kids of all ages, including bouncy houses, obstacles courses, face painting and snacks!

Let’s Play provides the tools, places and inspiration to make physical activity a daily priority and has committed $26 million to support programs that create inspirational play spaces and provide the resources and equipment children need to engage in active play.
