Ice Skating Returns to Discovery Green this Winter

Southwest’s largest ice rink opens with Olympic Gold Medalist, contemporary ice performers, and art cars November 25


Lace up your skates and prepare to glide into an unforgettable holiday season as ice skating returns to Discovery Green! The public is invited to the grand opening celebration of The ICE on Tuesday, November 25, 2014. The ICE at Discovery Green will be open daily through Sunday, February 8, 2014.

The grand opening of The ICE at Discovery Green is not to be missed! Enjoy an appearance by Olympic Gold Medalist Chad Hedrick and catch Le Patin Libre of Montreal in their first U.S. appearance with an extreme ice skating performance, followed by a disco dance party on the ICE. Check out the illuminated ArtX Art Car Procession at 7 p.m. and chill by a giant ice carving created by Reverend Butter!

When:                  Tuesday, November 25, 2014

4 – 10 p.m.; performance by Le Patin Libre begins at 8 p.m.

Admission:         Free activities

Skating is $13 per person, including tax and skate rental

Jump to the front of the line with a Speed Pass, purchased at, for $25 each.



Information:      Each winter, the park’s model boat basin is transformed into an outdoor ice rink using renewable energy and water recycled from Kinder Lake. The rink boasts 7,716 square feet, making it the largest outdoor skating rink in the South and Southwest!


The ICE at Discovery Green will offer an abundance of nightly activities throughout the season including live music, line dancing, outdoor movies, skating with Santa, ice carving and much more! The ICE will also feature the ICE Box—a pint-sized toddler-friendly rink.


Skaters and onlookers alike can enjoy authentic Belgian waffles and gourmet hot chocolate, an ideal complement while skating beneath downtown Houston’s twinkling skyline. The rink will be open daily, including holidays.
