Fun for All Ages at the Mercer Arboretum

Mercer Arboretum & Botanic Gardens near Spring, TX

  • Budget-Friendly. Visitors pay a whopping grand total of nothing! The Mercer Arboretum is completely FREE!! This trip was perfect for a budget-conscious family like us.
  • Variety. They have numerous gardens including a tropical plant garden and a bamboo garden. The plants were beautiful and smelled wonderful. There is also a butterfly area with many wildflowers and butterflies. George enjoyed watching the fountains with koi fish and turtles. He also enjoyed the playground area.
  • Teachable Moments. As a former teacher, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE teachable moments. While we soaked in the gorgeous flowers, I found myself reviewing colors with George. This would be the perfect place to visit if you’re learning about plants, and you can also discuss phrases like, “endangered species” and “native plants” with your children.

  •  Bring water for the whole family. We were grateful for the many benches throughout the arboretum. We were able to take breaks and refuel.
  •  With the warmer temperatures sneaking up on us, I would try to go early in the day. They are open from 8 am to 5 pm every day, except certain holidays.
  •  If you do enjoy the gardens in the morning, you can pack a picnic and use one of the many picnic tables for lunch.
  •  Sunscreen and bug spray are also good ideas.
  •  Take a camera. There are many areas that seem to be made for pictures.
  • Snakes are native to that area.  Be cautious.  Stay on the path.
