FEATURED ARTIST SEAN BROWN
BRINGS HIS WHIMSICAL JEWELRY CREATIONS
TO THE WOODLANDS WATERWAY ARTS FESTIVAL
Festival Expanded to Three Days, April 10-12

THE WOODLANDS, TX – (Date) – One of the many highlights of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival this year will be the whimsical jewelry and small sculptures created by Featured Artist Sean Brown from Denver, Colorado. Sean’s work will be on display at the 10th annual festival, set for Friday, April 10 through Sunday, April 12, 2015 along The Woodlands Waterway and in Town Green Park.
“We are excited to honor Sean as our Featured Artist this year,” said Jenny Wright, Festival Director. “His jewelry and sculpture pieces are alive with color, movement and fun in a delightful, whimsical way. His pieces are extremely popular with our patrons and we welcome him to The Woodlands!”
Sean comes from a family of artists – both his parents and grandparents were artistically talented and inspired him from an early age. His Mother had a pottery studio and his Dad was a graphic artist. “I learned a lot about design from watching my father in his painting studio and darkroom.”
His whimsical attitude about art stems from a variety of cultural influences including African, Aztec and Egyptian art as well as contemporary pop culture. “To this, I add a liberal use of vibrant color and interesting shape along with delightful pattern,” Sean says. “The unique use of form and juxtaposition of textures reflects the sophistication that is achieved through attention to detail and deliberate use of materials.”
His art combines soft, ethereal feathers that complement the hard, slick ceramic glaze surface of the jewelry and small sculptures. Gemstone beads and found objects add another layer of visual interest.
Sean finds that making something with his hands that comes from his heart is very rewarding, and he enjoys sharing his art with his customers. “I have no problem with being a contemporary craft maker. I find it very respectable to create with my own hands. It’s timeless and personal.”
Sean has displayed his art at more than 200 festivals throughout the U.S. and in many galleries. Over a 20-year period of traveling to festivals across the country, he has enjoyed staying with families in the communities where the festivals are held. “It’s a great way to establish the roots of communication with the people who are seeing and buying your art, and a wonderful way to make new friends.”
The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival is produced annually by The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council, a 501 (c) 3 organization that provides regional cultural and educational enrichment opportunities that encourage, support and promote the visual and performing arts.
Major sponsors of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival 2015 include Stella Artois, The Woodlands Development Company, The Woodlands Convention & Visitors Bureau and The Woodlands Waterway Marriott Hotel & Convention Center.
Throughout the year, The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council serves the community through its educational outreach arm called Because Art Matters (BAM). BAM is focused on four pillars of service in the community working directly with senior citizen groups, at-risk students of all ages, people with special needs and special circumstances, and partners in Montgomery County.
In celebration of The Woodlands Waterway Arts Festival’s 10th Anniversary, the event has been expanded to three days. Festival times are 11am – 6 pm on Friday, April 10, 10 am – 6 pm on Saturday, April 11 and 10am – 5 pm on Sunday, April 12. Adult tickets are $10 on Friday, $12 on the weekend or $15 for a weekend pass. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
