Calling All Scientists: The Woodlands Children’s Museum amazes and intrigues guests with experiments and demonstrations

THE WOODLANDS, TX – Dec. 3, 2014 – There’s no shortage of intrigue and fun when Dr. J takes the stage at The Woodlands Children’s Museum. He takes guests on a journey into the ooey-gooey, fizzy, explosive side of science.

The demonstrations are held at 11:15 a.m. on the first and third Wednesday of the month and included in the price of admission, which is still $5 per person 2 years and older.

Dr. J is the alias for science teacher Jeremy Lukk, who has been working at the museum since 2011.

Lukk started out offering a robotics course, then added other classes that revolve around his favorite subject.

“I’ve always liked science,” he said. “And cool science experiments are what I really like.”

When the museum’s executive director Angela Colton saw the demonstrations Lukk was sharing with his students, she invited him to address a bigger audience – up on the stage. That’s how Dr. J was born. The show began this fall.

Dr. J has demonstrated electricity with a plasma ball, made model volcanoes erupt, created bubbles out of dry ice and shown how chemicals react.

“You never know what Dr. J will do next,” Colton said. “He proves exactly how fascinating science can be – to audience members of all ages.”

Lukk said he is glad to spark an interest in science with museum guests.

“We have great offerings for science at the museum,” he said. “We’re trying to make it better and better and come up with new and exciting things.”

The Woodlands Children’s Museum has a calendar full of activities and courses – designed for young scientists, artists and explorers of all kinds.
