Historic Student Art Contest Invites Local Youth to Envision Our Future The Woodlands, TX
The Woodlands Waterway Arts Council, Because Art Matters is excited to host a contest for students K – 12 (Public, Private and Homeschool) to participate in a historic Student Art Contest in celebration of The Woodlands Township 40th Anniversary celebration, sponsored by Anadarko
Petroleum Corporation.
“HOW DO YOU ENVISION THE WOODLANDS IN THE NEXT 40 YEARS? ” is the subject for the contest, open to all students who live in The Woodlands Township or attend a school in The Woodlands Township boundaries. Two art categories open to competition with over $7,000 in cash prizes and awards, including Literary Arts (250-word or less essay, creative writing or Poetry), and 2- D Visual Arts (painting, drawing or photo). Bruce Coulson Tough, Chairman of the Board at The Woodlands Township, expressed excitement about this historic contest for local students, “Forty years ago, visionary leader Mr. George Mitchell had a dream and set course to create a great hometown known as The Woodlands.
We’re asking students in The Woodlands in 2014 what the next 40 years will be like, their dreams for our hometown and what it will be like.” Entry deadline will be on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at 3:00 p.m. Literary Art entries can be submitted online at http://www.WoodlandsWaterwayArtsCouncil.org.

All entries will be judged and winners will be announced during the Founders Day Celebration on Sunday, October 19, 2014, at Northshore Park in The Woodlands. “The Woodlands started with a unique and inspired vision that manifest itself in an exceptional
community for families and businesses alike,” said Bobby Reeves, EVP, General Counsel and CAO for Anadarko Petroleum Corporation.
“In sponsoring The Woodlands Township 40-year celebration school competition, we hope the next generation rises to the challenge in imagining their own unique and inspired vision of what our community could be in the year 2054.”
All winning submissions will be on display at The Because Art Matters Spotlight on the Arts Gallery at The Woodlands Mall through December 31, 2014, and then all artwork will be permanently donated and displayed in The Woodlands Township offices.
